10 Practices To Relieve MAJOR Stress, Burnout, and Anxiety

If you’ve been tuning in to my content for a while, you’ll remember that I’ve shared about my PMS and period many times. I even made a full YouTube video about it one year because it had gotten so bad that particular cycle and I really was just venting. I’ve since taken down the video but this will give you a good enough idea of how desperately I was struggling at the time:

Not only do I feel sad when I watch this back but I barely recognize myself.
Hormones play a huge role in our mood. 

And before I share any more of my experience, I want to say this; if you are someone who really struggles with PMS please consider getting your hormones tested to see what’s going on. I’m not an expert or a doctor, I just know what has helped me to relieve my symptoms significantly and am sharing that in case it could also help you. But in no way is this meant to replace professional advice. 

So eating a “healthy” diet is great in theory, but here’s why it doesn’t always work. 
I’ve been eating fairly healthy for many years now. I opt for organic 95% of the time. I eat lots of fresh, whole foods and raw foods, etc. But even with all of that, I had about 2 years where I was experiencing PMS worse than I ever had in my life. 

The culprit? ...STRESS.

You can eat ALL the healthy food in the world, you can work out and drink lots of water but if you’re not addressing your mental, emotional and spiritual realities, you will not be truly healthy. 

The same may be true vise versa. If you’re living a pretty stress-free life, but you’re eating fast food 24/7, it’s probably not going to be possible for you to experience a state of health. 

Don’t get me wrong, what you eat definitely matters but in my personal experience, stress in particular, is a life-ruiner. 

The road to truly learning how to de-stress was not easy for me. And I didn’t set out to do it because of my PMS. It just so happened to be something that I noticed in retrospect improved by 10 fold. 

I believe it was a few months ago that I realized… 
Oh wow, these are the days where I’d normally be crying for no reason, struggling over e v e r y t h i n g, overthinking my life away and just feeling like I could burst at the seams… and instead, I feel pretty stable.

Ten Practices to Relieve Stress Burnout and Anxiety

That’s when I knew for sure, I am healing. 

So, how did I do it?
First, I got really honest with myself about how much I was truly struggling.

Sometimes when you’re IN the stress it’s hard to have a grip on reality and get a clear perspective.

Next, I decided something major had to change. I needed to put my full well-being at the very top of my priority list. Which, for a workaholic and slight perfectionist was really hard for me to do.

Then, I did all the things:

  • Deep meditation daily
  • Grounding & time outside
  • Screen-free mornings and evenings
  • Focusing on fun and play
  • Therapy
  • Nourishing meals
  • Understanding Stress (I read, a lot)
  • Learning to say NO
  • Doing things I love
  • Setting boundaries with people and work

So if you are in any kind of situation similar to what I was, you may be like, “Okay Kate I know all those things matter but HOW?! I’m maxed out, I feel stressed all the time and I can barely remember to drink enough water in the day let alone schedule in time for true self-care”. 

The first thing I would say is, just start.

Understand that the love you give to yourself is THE MOST important thing in the world. Make it your mission, your purpose, and pursue it with full commitment. You can start with one simple thing on that list that you can do everyday. Let that one thing bring you one step closer to your true self. The self that is calm, centered, stable and always at peace. 

Because even though it feels like it sometimes, the stress is NOT who you are.
